Kool-Aid Playdough

Today we made KoolAid playdough and this was hands down my favorite recipe so far. It was really easy to make, has simple ingredients and was a great texture to play with.

3 cups flour
1/2 cups salt
2 Koolaide packages
2 cups boiling water
Mix dry ingredients together. Add boiling water.
Knead on floured surface.
Can add flour by sprinkles until desired consistency.
This playdough will last for a long time when stored correctly.
I divided the recipe in half and used two different types of Kool-aid so that we would have two different colors to play with.
We had a really great time with this one and thanks to the Kool-aid it smelt great. We had one grape and one cherry and Scarlett kept smelling them. This one will be great for when company is over because even if the colors get mixed together, it makes such a large amount it doesn't really matter. I think this batch would make a great gift sealed in cute containers or as a party favor for a kid's birthday party.
The dough is nice and springy, worked well with all the toys that we have and rolled out nice on the table for us to cut shapes out of it. I would highly recommend this recipe to any one and will definitely be making more batches with different colors and scents.

Salt Playdough

Today we made salt playdough and this too required very basic ingredients. All you need is flour, salt, water and food coloring. This one is a bit different because it is meant for creating shapes that you can dry out and then let it harden.

1 cup water
1 cup salt
1/2 cup flour
Food coloring
Mix ingredients in pan.
Add food coloring. Stir on low heat.
When it thickens remove from heat.
Put on waxed paper or floured surface and roll out.
Cut out objects.
Air dry objects for a few days.
Store un-used portion in air-tight container.

This is what ours looked like when it was all done. I tried to make it purple but it came out looking more like cement. It didn't take long to cook and although it was a bit sticky and messy it was very easy to clean up.

I rolled ours out on a plastic cutting mat and found that I needed a fair amount of flour on the mat and rolling pin to keep it from sticking. Once I did get it rolled out it was easy to cut and Scarlett and I really enjoyed playing with it.
We now have our shapes outside in the sun to dry; we will see how they turn out in a few days and report back. See you tomorrow as we make kool-aid playdough.

Cloud Playdough

Welcome to playdough week! Today we tried a mix called cloud playdough. This one required very basic ingredients; all you need is flour, oil, water and food coloring.

1/2 cup water
3/4 cup vegetable oil
3 cups flour
Add a few drops of food coloring to water.
Combine water, oil and flour in a large bowl. Knead well.
Used on a washable surface, it is really oily.

This recipe was really easy to make and the kids had a good time playing with it but it was a weird consistancy and was messy. When they left a clump of it on the table the oil would start to leak out of it onto the table. The nice thing about it was that it didn't stick to anything, so it cleaned off the toys really easy.

It ended up looking a lot like algae growing on the toys which the kids thought was funny because the toys we have are sea creatures. I would not make this one again but was glad that the kids had fun playing with it and it cost nothing to make because we had everything in our cupboards.
Meet us back here again tomorrow as we try out another recipe!

♥ Welcome to Sassy Scarlett ♥

I am here to provide you with handmade fashion items for you and the little ladies in your life. I find enjoyment in coordinating with my daughter Scarlett, who is the inspiration for my designs, and everything I make is with mother daughter relationships in mind. Everything will be available through my shop on Etsy which will launch May 1st, just in time for Mother's Day! But that's not where this blog ends, this will also be a place to find fun activities and crafts for you to do with your little munchkins and we will be kicking off our first week with playdough week. We will be trying out a different homemade playdough everyday and see which one we like best.

Thanks for stopping by, now I'm off to play~
